Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How much will it cost to get my cat declawed?
A. About $100. If you choose declawing, Helping Paws only permits front claw removal. If your cat were to accidently get outside, it would need its rear claws for defense in case of an unfriendly encounter.
Q. Should I let my cat go outside?
A. No. All cats and kittens should be kept indoors at all times. Cats allowed to roam outside are not "free" - they are in great danger from cars, other animals, poisons, excessive heat and cold, abusive people, and other hazards. The life expectancy of an outdoor cat is 2 to 4 years, compared to 15 to 20 years for a housecat. Also, please be sure all windows are securely screened to prevent your cat from slipping out or falling from dangerous heights.
Q. Should I crate train my dog?
A. Yes. The purpose of a dog crate is to provide confinement for reasons of security, safety, housebreaking, protection of household goods, illness/injury, or just plain general control. Be consistent and patient. Establish a "crate routine" immediately and stick to it as closely as possible. A dog should be taken outdoors to a specific bathroom spot after every meal, nap, and at regular intervals in between.
Q. What are some of the basic supplies I need for my new cat/dog?
A. There is a complete list on our What You Need For A New Pet page.
